What is a MAM Project?

Metus MAM has a project based structure. You can have a single project or multiple projects which consist of assets, bins(folders), physical files related to them, information and metadata, settings, user defined profiles, users&groups and user rights and all relevant information are all stored in a project database structure.

The project keeps all the relationships between the assets and bins, playlists and filter results. Each new project is empty but it has a preset structure imported with the first installation.

You can create a New Project, Open or Close an existing project from the File Menu.

Project Types

1    Library Project

The library project does NOT change the physical locations of the files. Users work with files directly, using all metadata options and MAM features. An example may be a media monitoring facility with multiple Ingest stations (all of them with local storage discs). Here, there is no advance need for archiving the content in a central location, but a proper tagging and organized MAM structure is necessary to reach needed content easily.

2    Archive Project

The main difference between an archive and a library project is that with an archive project, Metus MAM archives the assets in tape or disc units, according to project settings, changing the physical locations of the files that are to be archived. It is not possible to reach the archived content outside of MAM if default options are selected.

Project File

The project information is saved as a Metus project file in a local or network disc. MAP file is for Archive Project and MLP file is for Library Project

NOTE Project files (MAP or MLP file) must be copied to all local desktop users that will work with the project. You can also re-create a project file in desktop client if you lose the file. Please see How to re-create a project file
