Metadata is information describing all aspects of an asset or file. Each metadata value is saved in its specific metadata field of an asset in the database. Please see Basic Concepts - metadata for more information
Metadata concept is essential in MAM systems as they are the main tool for advance search and categorizing operations
Each MAM project has its own metadata fields for all assets. When you first create a project, Metus MAM installs a big-tree structured metadata fields. Please note that only project administrators can change the active/visible metadata fields for a project.
Metadata tab (you can turn on/off metadata tab by shortcut F4 or View/Metadata)
You will see the metadata information for the active asset in the metadata tab. As you notice, the fields are ordered under groups and sub-groups.
You can also view all metadata fields in one tab (show all metadata fields in one tab)
NOTE There are two kinds of metadata fields in MAM, editable andnon-editable fields. As you may notice, the blue fields are editable (user entry) and red fields are non-editable (these information are created by the system automatically, like creator, computer name, asset path etc.)
You can view the full list of metadata fields from Metadata tab/Menu/ All Fields (Ctrl+Alt+F)
NOTE You can change the visible metadata fields from Project/Show Hide Fields or Metadata Tab/Menu/Show Hide Fields. That way, the users will only see the needed metadata fields for the project to avoid confusion and layout crowd.
Only project admins can change the visibility of metadata fields.
NOTE You can apply preset metadata templates for any asset. Please see Template Bin - create a template - 4.0.0.0 for more information.
